ABOUT ME
Cindy Heather
Advanced Practitioner
Hello, My name is Cindy Heather and I am an advanced Drawing and Talking practitioner. I have worked with children for 15 years supporting academically and therapeutically. I also run art and craft workshops.
Children face many challenges as they grow up often not able to express what is wrong or why they feel as they do, leaving parents feeling helpless.
I work from my studio at home in a pleasant, garden setting or I am happy to come to your home or school. The technique is intended to allow the child to play by drawing a picture and process any emotions they are holding internally in a safe and non-confrontational way, working at their own pace. The sessions remain confidential between the child and myself.
Please contact me to discuss any further questions and making your first step.
MY APPROACH
Gentle and therapeutic
Drawing and Talking is a gentle, non-intrusive, therapeutic approach to making sense of hidden trauma. This approach is beneficial when dealing with a range of emotional and behavioural issues including low self esteem, bereavement, attachment difficulties, illness or effects from domestic abuse.

Within a session you will be invited to draw freely and work at your own pace, to make sense of your internal world and emotions.

Sessions are 30 minutes long, once a week, at the same time and place, for 12 weeks. Having sessions in the same place and time is part of creating a safe and predictable environment.

After a course of 12 consecutive weeks, children are more able to access an academic curriculum and most importantly have a higher self esteem.
The cost for an individual is £45 per session and a day/half day rate is available for schools.

MORE ABOUT...
Drawing and Talking

The method encourages each side of the child’s brain to work together to process difficult or painful memories by combining drawing, a right brained activity and talking, a left brained activity.
Painful memories, along with high levels of emotion, are stored in visual form in the right brain and expressed in symbolic form in the child’s drawing. Once on paper the child becomes more accessible to the logical left brain.
Talking about the drawing allows an internal process to take place which enables the child to know that an experience is in the past and to file it away safely or even to forget it. Over time the child becomes more able to process and manage their pain which will often lead to more positive behaviour and engagement with the national curriculum and other day to day processes.
With the sessions, your child will be encouraged to talk about feelings using story telling language to help them make sense of their internal world.
